We donate bears to bring joy at a difficult time

We believe Healing Heart Bears provide comfort to children and adults who are struggling. They are companions while healing and provide loving hugs. Broken heart begins to heal when loved.

When Feelings Start to Tug, give your bear a hug

After my Dad passed, my Mom found a seven foot stuffed bear. She sat him on her couch and would give him a big hug when she missed my Dad. She said the bear made her feel less lonely.

Our hope is the Bears inspire stories and strengthen the desire to live with optimism and joy.

We invite our Bears recipients to share their stories, engage in conversations, attend live and online events, and benefit from our qualified resources.

DIRECTIONS TO FEEL THE JOY: Place Bear Over Your heart and Give it a big hug!

According to the New York Post, a study examining the sentimentality of 2,000 adults found 43 percent still privately indulges their softer side with a cuddle from their favorite stuffed toy.

When we miss someone and are grieving we search for ways to find comfort and reconnect to our loved ones.

“I needed to find a way to help them connect the dots, an age-appropriate way for them to feel connected to their grandfather while they grieved.

At the suggestion of a friend, I took the kids to Target and told them that we were there to buy three identical teddy bears. “Why three?” they asked. “One for each of you. And one for Poppy,” I explained.

Both children stood in the aisle and carefully selected three stuffed bears, testing the teddies for softness and “the cuddle factor,” as my son said.

I explained to the kids that those bears would now be their “Poppy teddies” and that we would put one in my father’s casket, too. Because the bears were the same, my kids had a concrete reminder that they were, in fact, still connected with my dad, even if he wasn’t physically here with us. And, because my daughter was worried that my father was scared of the dark, I told her that his teddy would help him feel safe.

As she hugged her new teddy, she shared the first real smile I’d seen since my father passed away.”

More Than 5.2M Children Globally Have Lost A Parent Or Caregiver To COVID-19

ABC News (2/24) reports that more than 5.2 million children globally “have lost a parent or caregiver during the pandemic, according to a new study published in The Lancet medical journal Thursday.” Study researchers “said they developed a real-time calculator to predict loss of parent or caregiver by current mortality data for every country in the world” and found that “the number of children who lost at least one parent at the end of the first 20-months of the pandemic was greater than the total number of COVID deaths, and this gap is increasing.” An American Academy of Pediatrics spokesperson said, “These are 5 million kids in one generation that will be living the rest of their lives in a very different way, and this affects us all.”
